Winter 2012 Season: “Comedic Mini-Series Creation Lab”
An ensemble-minded process of creating the 3 rd featurette from the HARA Motion Picture Conservatory.
NOW CASTING! Actors/actresses ages 13-18 who are motivated to star in character roles they create for the ensemble comedy film “Camp Hero-Time”
“CAMP HERO-TIME!” An ensemble comedy film. (“Breakfast Club”-meets-“Salute Your Shorts”-meets-“Harry Potter”) When troubled teens are sent away to camp, their idiosyncratic characters are put to the test when the camp counselors push them to their limits in a fantasy world of play to eventually confront their biggest challenge: their parents.
Audition 1: Saturday, October 20th: 12pm – 3pm
Audition 2: Wednesday, November 7th: 6-8:30pm at our home, AMP (2200 Garden Rd, Monterey) Studio A & B
Please wear comfortable clothes. Please no jeans or dresses (without leggings), or large hoop earrings.
The auditors will focus on your level of imagination and how well you take direction as well as your ability to work well within small groups. Some memorizing of text is required. (downloaded the application here) Dates: (see application for exact times)

Production: With the addition of the new camera and microphone packages supplied to us by the “Summer 2012” & the “2012/2013 school year” grants from the STAR Foundation of Monterey County, our next winter season’s product will be on a new level of quality. With our demonstrated quick post-production time-span of 4 months, our film will be ONE OF if not THE FIRST productions of its kind to be shot with the Black Magic Cinema Camera; utilizing 10-bit Apple ProRes 422(HQ) Compression. Coupled with the superior lighting capabilities brought to HARA by Left Coast Entertainment’s Tammy Massa, our technical production capabilities are on par with modern 2012/2013 independent film standards. Class: We will be taking a different approach with this “Comedy Feature Film Creation Lab.” This season will focus on what HARA does better than any video production class ever does: capturing great performances. In order to spend more of our class time on performance training, time must be cut from the concept-creation process. A treatment of the film will serve as a rough outline of the plot, locations, morals, and general production scope before classes begin, although it will not include characters or dialogue. Having an outline of a film suitable for our cast, crew, and budget ahead of time will allow the ensemble to focus more on acting training, dialogue creation, and pre-production during our 10 classroom sessions together. Although the outline will be in place, the dialogue and characters will still need to be rehearsed into creation. Taking an improvisational approach to script creation will be a key component in rehearsal as well as on set for this film. Our film will be funny, energetic, and above all – like everything HARA creates – meaningful. By taking on this new approach to the filmmaking process, the faculty intends to continue to offer the students the most creative control possible within the time we have together. The byproduct of going though this 10-weekend training and subsequent 10-day production will be a more lively connection to the audience/performer paradigm, confident performances on camera and off, and a broader sense of belonging to the HARA Community through hard work and a rewarding product for all. Due to the focus on acting and the overwhelming interest in this 9 th season of HARA, each alumni student as well as new students will have to audition on October 20 th & 21 st . If you are more interested in behind the scenes work, this is not the season for you! A brief script will be provided for memorizing for the individual section of the audition but the casting process will be held on two separate dates. We will be giving workshops throughout October at the drama classes Carmel High, Monterey High, Santa Catalina, RLS, and Pacific Grove High Schools.
Tuition for this season is:
$675 for new students, (or $250/month x 3 months)
$400 for returning students, (or $175/month x 3 months)
There will be limited FULL scholarship for some internship positions listed above. Partial scholarships for new students and alumni are available to qualified applicants. (see page 3 of application)
